Shelter Fall Clean Up

The Fall Clean Up at the Shelter was a success!
We got all the major jobs completed!

Thank you to everyone who helped out!

Sara (above) and Ashley were on site to take care of the shelter animals and help the public in adoptions and inquiries. Sara can be seen above keeping us organized by taking down phone messages.

Lea and Jennifer had the huge task of cleaning up the supply room!
Everything is super organized and tidy now!
Thank you girls for all your hard work!

Jay and Ian were on deck to clean up the shelter grounds! They removed a broken picnic table, cleaned up around the shelter, and even temporarily filled our pot holes! Thanks for all your hard work guys!

Our favourite "Volun-TOLD" can be seen tending to our air conditioners! Doug helped out with a number of other tasks including getting the snow blower ready! Thanks Doug!

Nora made sure the doggies had a clean and "leave free" zone to run around in!
This was a big job because there was a ton of leaves!
Nora then packed some of the leaves into our "pumpkin bags" which are now decorating the front steps of the shelter!
Thanks so much Nora!

If you have the chance to stop by the shelter,
check out our "spider web" for our upcoming events!

Thanks again to everyone who helped get the shelter ready for winter!

Make a Cat's Howl-a-ween Purrrfect! - Adopt!

"Halloween specials in night black, soft tortoise-shell and pumpkin orange!" - our Halloween adoption is on; spread the word!

This Halloween the Ontario SPCA has more to offer than just tricks or treats! In honour of this howling-good time of the year the Ontario SPCA have many frankentastic felines available for adoption, including Halloween specials in Night Black, Soft Tortoise-shell and Pumpkin Orange!

NIGHT BLACK BEAUTIES!!

The Ontario SPCA invites the public to hop on their broom-mobile and visit the shelter to meet these adorable festive kitties looking for loving homes.

PUMPKIN ORANGE ORIGINALS!!

The Ontario SPCA would also like to remind pet owners to keep their animals indoors during the haunted hours of Halloween. Costumes can spook an animal causing their quick escape. Stray animals can be targeted by Halloween pranksters; please keep your animals on a leash or in a safe room (away from the front door) while the trick-or-treaters visit.

SOFT TORTOISE-SHELL SWEETHEARTS!!

Remember to keep Halloween candy or chocolate out of paw's reach.

Lastly, please keep pets away from burning candles such as those placed in jack-o'-lanterns. Cutting the hole in the bottom of your jack-o’-lantern will prevent your pets from taking off the cover and burning themselves.

On October 17th, Tracy (Branch Manager), Jennifer (Animal Care Attendant) and Jamie (Volunteer & Humane Education Coordinator) attended training in Brockville (along with the other OSPCA branches in the Eastern Region) . Training included volunteer management, behavioral assessments, and helping our shelter dogs and cats feel more comfortable while they are in our care. The girls learned a lot at training and are excited to tell others what they learned! Look for upcoming volunteer workshops that intergrate some of this training along with other interesting knowledge!

Fall Clean Up Reminder!
The fall clean up for the shelter is taking place on Sunday October 26th from 9am to noon (followed by a potluck lunch). We hope to see everyone out to the shelter to help us get ready for winter!

Speaking of winter, we will need volunteers to help us with snow removal this season! If you can help out please contact Jamie at 613-588-4508.

The bake sale that was held on October 18th was a success! Thank you to Sherry Lynn, Sherry, Sara and Lea for manning our table! Also, a huge thank you to all the bakers who donated goodies! Together we raised over $300! Those funds go directly to helping the animals at the Renfrew County Branch! Come support our upcoming Craft Sales on Dec 7th (Petawwa Civic Centre) and Dec 13th (West End Mall in Pembroke)! To help with these sales or for more information, please call the shelter.

Pembroke Animal Hospital Open House

(above: puppet show at Pembroke Animal Hospital Open House)

The Pembroke Animal Hospital held their annual open house on Sunday October 5th. There was a good turn out of people to support the animal hospital and the OSPCA. There was lots going on at the open house including tours of the facilities, puppet shows, a BBQ, "pet pix", a dental surgery & spay/neuter surgeries, a silent auction and much more! We would like to extend a thank you to Pembroke Animal Hospital and their staff for holding such a fun filled event and for supporting the shelter! We would also like to thank the shelter volunteers who came out to help out with the festivities including Jackie and Anthony (our BBQ gurus) and Lisa (queen of the "pet pix").

(above: Koda)

In other great news, September was another good month for adoptions. We found homes for 49 cats, 9 dogs, 3 rabbits, 8 hamsters and 1 bird! Thanks to everyone who adopted and to everyone who helped make these adoptions happen! Let's make October another successful month!

Out in the Community!

Today Willow (one of our dogs up available for adoption) got a special treat! She attended the Blessing of Animals at St.Francis of Assisi Catholic School in Petawawa. Willow did great! She was so happy to be around all the people and animals! If you would like to adopt Willow please contact the shelter! She came to us as a stray about a week ago and is approximately 6 or 7 years old. She’s great with kids, adults, and other animals. Plus, she know lots of tricks! Just as her to sit, she may surprise you!
